Water Water Everywhere
Today we worked on a river poem, and people from Dayton Water came in to talk to us about water. We learned about many cool things, such as how they test the water, and how they check the pipes for damage.
Let's start with testing the water. First they collect a sample from a creek or wherever they need. then they test for the pH and DO, or the acidity/basicity and the amount of oxygen in the water.
Now let's move on to how they check the pipes. They use little robots to actually drive inside the pipes and scan for damage. I thought that was really cool. One time one of the guys saw a raccoon inside a pipe.
Moving on to the river poem. We saw a poem called The Apple Pie That Papa Baked and made a poem about a river based on that. We got into groups with all of us doing a different part of the poem. Here is our final poem:
This is the water, moist and wet, that flows down the tree, brown and sticky, that falls onto the hill, large and grassy, leading into the mud, brown and squishy, into the sand, small and fine, under the fish, lively and colorful, eaten by the beaver, plump and round.
